Why do we care to hear from God?
…because “in Him we live and move and have our being.”
…because He created us and He knows everything.
…because He asks us to.
…so that we can know “the times and the seasons.”
…for wisdom.
…for guidance.
…for love.
…because it’s wildly fun.
(and a million other reasons).
Join us monthly to hear from a friend of Thy Name who listens…

Immutable God
It can seem like the world is changing at a whirlwind pace and spinning faster every day. Political upheavals, once-in-a-century storms and rapid advances in artificial intelligence often leave many people wondering what comes next. I like using the word “discombobulated,” as it sounds so fitting to the way many of us are feeling right now; out of balance, overwhelmed, bewildered, and sometimes even fearful.
While so much is going on, it can often be hard to see the hand of God in the midst of it all. Several years ago, a pastor friend of mine preached a series on the attributes of God. I still have the handout he distributed, and one attribute in particular has stayed with me: God's immutability. He explained that immutability means God never changes. That raises an important question: what difference does that make in our lives?
Scripture tells us that God laid the foundations of the earth, created the heavens, and they will wear out, but God remains the same. When we look at our own struggles and the difficulties in the world and turn towards God, we can trust that He remains steadfast and secure. The whole of creation is in constant flux, but God remains sovereign over it all, and that never changes.
The Old Testament reveals that God laid the foundations of the earth, yet He Himself remains unchanged. The New Testament not only affirms this truth but applies it directly to Jesus Christ. As Hebrews 13:8 declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” In a world marked by uncertainty and constant change, Christ is our unshakable foundation. He is the solid rock on which we can stand with confidence and security when everything around us seems to be shifting.
God’s immutability is not just a theological concept; we can find comfort in this profound truth. When circumstances change, relationships falter, plans unravel and the world seems consumed in chaos, God remains exactly who He has always been. He is perfectly good, perfectly wise, perfectly powerful, and perfectly faithful. His promises do not fail, His character does not shift, and His love never diminishes. In every kind of storm, drought, or fiery trial, Christ remains our steadfast refuge, the Unchanging Rock on which we can securely stand.
